those windows were retrofited in the original large windows were bricked up and these dinky things were the windows....one of the first things we kew needed to go....not to mention the good-ole-boy structural action holding up the roof....

we did away with these stairs, replacing them @ a different angle for the sake of downstairs as well as up here.....

we used the glass sliding doors from the building next door, which were stored in the basement, as windows looking into the stairhall....

the concrete footings come out from the wall about 20"....not sure what they were...but we left them exposed....added a 2" conc. counter top....

that wooden beam and the brick piers still show in the remodeled space, running the entire length of the building-front to back.....

it was like a glorified crawlspace, thin 1" concrete.....it is that level we went down about 20"-24", as low as the bottom of the existing wall footings......poured 4" slab.....re-hab code allowed the 7'-6" finish ceiling height.

it was dark and drearie....not the place you want to hang out....we dug down about 24" in this area....couldn't go any lower...
